On the homework I was confused about 6d. You are supposed to find the x and y values of the equation 2y-12=0. Where is the x in that?

In number 6, you are supposed to be graphing the equations. The equation for 6.d) does look rather odd. But, let's plunge ahead anyhow. Your first attempt to graph it may be to find the x-and y-intercepts. But, as you've pointed out, there is no x so this seems rather difficult. So, let's go to the tried and true method of graphing by create an entire table of values.

For any value of x, what would y be?

𝑥=1, 2𝑦−12=0, solve for y

adding 12 to both sides you get: 2𝑦=12

divide both sides by 2: 𝑦=6

Okay, what about when 𝑥=2, 𝑦 still equals 6.

In fact, it seems for any value of 𝑥, 𝑦 still equals 6.

It doesn't matter what value of x is chosen, y equals 6. It's odd, but there are points to graph, so continue forward. Plotting these points, we see that they seem to make a line with zero slope.

In fact, this is exactly what happens. When there is no x, that means that for any value of x, the y value will be the same. This will graph a line at that value of y on the y-axis. It will always have a slope of zero. Cool, huh?!
