An online Geometry course in which students acquire the skills needed to build a deductive system of logic by exploring classic geometric topics.

This course is perfect for any student who wants to progress through the material at their own pace. Whether your student has a busy schedule or needs the space to understand lessons in their own precious time, this course provides support while still allowing the flexibility that homeschoolers love.

This course coordinates with Harold Jacobs Geometry text book. Please see details below for more information.

Completion of this course constitutes one high school math credit.*

Purchase of this course provides access to the course for 3 years.

While purchasing this course you will be prompted to provide an email address. This will be the email address linked to the course. Please determine if you would like this to be the parent's or the student's email address.

Details about the Self-Paced Geometry Course

This course provides engaging, interactive video lessons, suggested practice problems, chapter tests, pacing guides, and access to Climbing Higher Math teachers to answer questions.

Materials Required for this course that are not included with purchase of it:

  • Geometry textbook by Harold Jacobs (either the old or new text is fine). This book is not provided with purchase of the course.
  • Geometry Solutions Guide, solutions are not provided with this course and not all solutions are provided in the back of the textbook.
  • A device to access the course, a computer or laptop is suggested. The device will need to be able to access this site, the Desmos platform, and the Quizizz platform.
  • A notebook to be used as a math journal to work problems in and create reference pages. We suggest a gridded notebook, but a lined notebook plus graph paper will work too.

Major topics covered include the language of geometry (points, lines, planes and angles), reasoning and proofs, parallel and perpendicular lines, congruent triangles, applications of congruent triangles, quadrilaterals, similarity, right triangles and trigonometry, circles, polygons and area, surface area and volume, coordinate geometry, and transformations. After completing this course, students are prepared to continue on to Algebra 2 and Trigonometry.

Please see course page for a complete list of chapters and lessons covered.

Each lesson consists of:

  • Review exercises to quickly review previous concepts and warm up students' minds.
  • Exploration & explanation of the new concept. This portion includes short videos to explain and guide students through the process of discovering and playing with the concepts.
  • Assigned text book exercises to be completed and checked for accuracy. Solutions are found in the back of the text book. It is not necessary to purchase a solutions manual.
  • Some lessons include a reflection, or narration, portion, where students create a reference page about the current concept in their math journals.

The lessons are on Desmos, an online math platform that utilizes slides to walk students through a lesson step-by-step. Each lesson in the course has a link for the corresponding Desmos lesson. This platform allows students to explore concepts as they learn them. Each lesson has a few videos, usually one to three minutes in length, mixed with interactive slides, enabling students the opportunity to explore, try out, and assess his or her understanding as the lesson progresses.

We suggest that students successfully complete an Algebra 1 course before beginning this Geometry course.

We understand that some families may be utilizing this course as the geometry 'stream' of math for their child. If that is the case, we recommend moving more slowly through this Geometry course for the first year of study, while spending more time on the algebra 'stream' of math. The algebra review at the beginning of each chapter in the geometry textbook is a good indicator of what algebra will be needed while learning the geometric concepts in that chapter. We recommend students have already covered the concepts in the algebra review before beginning that chapter in geometry.

Tabitha and Julie want to help students and parents on this math journey as much as we can. This course provides two main ways to ask questions and get help, through a:

  • Lesson comments - students can ask questions in each lesson through the comments section at the bottom of each lesson
  • Course forum - a forum connected to the course that only allows access to students in the course. The course forum allows for a bank of previously answered questions to be accessible by all students. CHM even adds questions that we have noticed through our experience in live classes students tend to ask.

This course is designed for you to determine the pacing that works for your child and for your schedule. In order to help you plan, we provide two pacing guides options for the course.

A full course option: A suggested pacing guide for finishing the course in one school year is provided. This would constitute one full math credit for Algebra 1. The course takes 36 weeks to complete, including exam weeks.

A half course option: A suggested pacing guide for completing half of the course in one year (either the first or the second half) is provided. This option allows students to complete separate "streams" of math. (more on our thoughts on the streams of math can be found in our FAQs.)

Parents are giving their child the grade for this course. Our lessons are only a tool for parents to use to teach the lessons for their child's algebra 1 course.

We provide chapter assessments, as well as a midterm and a final exam. The midterm and final are both cumulative. Assessments are provided as a PDF. They can be printed or viewed in the browser.

Answer Keys are also provided as a PDF for each assessment so that homeschool parents can grade the assessments themselves.

We suggest that the assigned practice problems are self-checked so that students immediately know if they are doing the problems correctly. The Jacobs' Geometry Solutions manual is needed to check assigned text book problems.

This course is available to start at anytime of the year. The entire course - lessons, tests, pacing guides, etc - are available immediately upon purchase of the course.

Purchase of this course provides access to the course for 3 years.

We want each student to have access to this course for as long as they need it. It is a self-paced course and, although we have given suggested pacing, some students may need more time. With this in mind, at the end of your 3 years you can purchase more time with the course for $25 per 6 months.

If you realize your student needs more time with the course, please email Tabitha & Julie at info@climbinghighermath.com.

While purchasing the course, you will be prompted to create a login with an email address. This email address will be the username for the account with access to the course. Please determine if you would like this email address to be the parent or student email.
